Slidell Memorial Hospital – Surgery Addition

Following several months of user meetings and master planning efforts, the healthcare design team at Sizeler Thompson Brown partnered with the SMH Administration to create a project scope for their new Three-Story Addition. The materials from the master planning efforts were then used to assist SMH with the tax bond election that voters approved in 2022 for financing this critical addition.

The project includes a new Surgical Department that has seven new ORs including three dedicated Heart/Neuro rooms and a Hybrid OR. The department also includes a much larger PACU area and a Pre/Post area that serves both the ORs and the New Endoscopy Department.

The Addition also included 12 new ICU rooms, 26 Med/Surg Patient Rooms, and new Central Sterile and BioMed departments. The 26-bed Third Floor Unit can be isolated into 4 distinct "pandemic zones" with 100% fresh air/negative pressure rooms to provide future flexibility to SMH while maximizing the safety of its staff and patients

Compromising over 70,000 square feet, the Addition represents the largest addition to the Hospital in its 60-year history. Given the complexity of the Addition connecting into the existing buildings, the project was phased over a two-year construction period.
