Martin Luther King Jr. Charter High School
The 140,000 sf, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter High School is located on the site of the original Alfred Lawless High School in the City’s Lower Ninth Ward. Designed for 750 students, the state-of-the-art facility is a catalyst for continued residential development and a symbol of the rebirth of the Katrina-devastated Lower Ninth Ward community. The modern, colorful three-story school design includes classrooms, labs, gymnasium, 450-seat theater and library/media center. The design incorporates many sustainable, energy saving strategies and achieved its goal of LEED Silver certification.
