A key design objective for the Norman C. Francis Science & Academic Building, a 109,000 SF addition to the University's older Science Building, was to create a true Center of Excellence on the campus. The building houses the Center for Environmental Science and provides biology, chemistry, computer & physics laboratories, support areas and faculty offices. More than 25% of the lab area is dedicated to research. Also included is a new vivarium which features thirteen holding rooms, a full operating room suite and full sterile cage wash area. The spacious atrium was designed to accommodate receptions and special events. The building also houses a state-of-the-art video conferencing center and is equipped with extensive audio/visual capabilities.
